Examinations
Most children benefit from taking exams at some point during their musical learning. Our office will let you know when your child’s teacher thinks they are ready to achieve a good result in an examination and that it will be a positive experience for them.
It is normal to be nervous before an examination but your child’s teacher will ensure that they are as well prepared as possible before entering the examination room. Extra practise may be necessary in order to attain the level of performance required to enable your child to reach their full potential. In the end it will be worth it!
Examinations available
- Our own in-house examinations have been developed to be more convenient and cheaper for busy families than the nationally-available examinations detailed below. In order to do this we make use of your child’s existing tutor book, use CD accompaniments and, where possible, hold the examination in your child’s school. The examination will, in all cases, be conducted by one of our teachers who does not ordinarily teach your child, in order that they can provide an objective assessment of your child’ performance. Certificates are usually available withing 3-4 days of the examination taking place.
- Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College London, and Rockschool examinations are available and we are happy to prepare pupils for these. please be aware, however, that they tend to be expensive (£40 for the examination, plus paying an accompanist and purchasing the required music) and require you to take your child to a designated examination centre. Certificates usually take 2 or more weeks to arrive from the examination board.
